Global Ports Holding (“GPH”), the world’s largest independent cruise port operator, has launched its Next-Gen Program across its global network of 35 cruise ports in 20 countries. This program introduces students to the dynamic world of cruise, port operations, and maritime careers.
Launched in connection with the International Day of the Seafarer, the Next-Gen Program is implemented across GPH ports worldwide, bringing students directly into the heart of port operations. In cooperation with cruise line partners, participating ports welcomed students for guided terminal visits, industry presentations, operational briefings, and exclusive ship tours designed to showcase the many career opportunities available both at sea and ashore.
Following the launch of the Next-Gen Program earlier this year, GPH ports across the network have already welcomed more than 350 students through a series of educational activities, giving them firsthand insight into the cruise and maritime industry and its diverse career opportunities.
The Next-Gen Program serves as a vital bridge between the classroom and the port, offering program participants direct exposure to terminal management, passenger flow, port infrastructure, maritime technology, security, guest services, and the daily coordination required during a cruise call. By observing how a port operates on a ship day, students gained a deeper understanding of the people, systems, and services that come together to deliver a seamless passenger and crew experience.
The program also highlights the wide range of high-growth career paths within the cruise and maritime sectors, including port operations, engineering, logistics, hospitality, safety and security, destination management, sustainability, technology, and specialized shoreside services.
Mehmet Kutman, Chairman & CEO at Global Ports Holding, said:
"Today, we celebrate the dedication of seafarers around the world, both within GPH and across our global network. Our Next-Gen Program represents our commitment to the future by opening our ports and providing students with immersive, real-world exposure to the maritime industry. The sector offers a wide range of rewarding careers, both at sea and ashore. Through the Next-Gen Program, we are helping young people understand the opportunities available and encouraging them to consider a future in our industry.”
The Next-Gen Program reflects GPH’s commitment to community engagement, maritime education, and local talent development. By opening its ports to students and strengthening cooperation with cruise lines, GPH is helping build a stronger talent pipeline for the evolving global cruise market. As the cruise and maritime sectors continue to evolve, attracting and developing the next generation of talent remains essential to supporting future growth, innovation and operational excellence across the industry.
